Kanye West is making a shift from rap to heavy metal.
The rapper, aged 46, caught attention when he shared on his Instagram Story on Wednesday to flaunt his new metallic dentures, reportedly valued at a substantial $850,000, according to the Daily Mail.
In another post, West drew a comparison between his new appearance and the James Bond villain Jaws, who is known for having a mouth filled with metal.
The antagonist made appearances in “The Spy Who Loved Me” in 1977 and “Moonraker” in 1979.
According to the Daily Mail, West’s teeth were completely extracted and substituted with bespoke titanium dentures crafted by the self-proclaimed “Father of Diamond Dentistry,” Dr. Thomas Connelly, in collaboration with cosmetic dentist Naoki Hayashi.
Nevertheless, Connelly refuted the claim that West’s natural teeth were removed, stating to Complex, “He did not have his teeth removed. He still has a full dentition. Healthy and happy 😁.”
Connelly shared West’s dentures reveal on his own Instagram Story and enthusiastically praised the new appearance when speaking to the Daily Mail.
“Ye was a pleasure to work with every step of the process,” he expressed with enthusiasm. “His vision for designing unique art transcends the dental progression.””
“The marriage of his Vision with dental science has created a new look that is epic!”
Although West and Connelly appear to take pride in their collaboration, fans turned to social media to mock the Grammy winner for his unconventional dental transformation.
One user criticized, stating, “He is still an idiot, more money than brains!!! Get Help Man!”
“No way Kanye West went through with that. Look like he wrapped his teeth with gum wrapper💀😭,” another person commented.
A third person, seemingly concerned, wrote, “this can’t be real…”
West’s titanium creation is not the first instance of him personally designing his own teeth.
In 2010, during an episode of “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” he asserted that he had his lower teeth removed and substituted with diamonds.
“I just thought that diamonds were cooler. … It’s certain stuff that rock stars are supposed to do,” he explained.
He acknowledged, though, that he had to make frequent visits to the dentist to upkeep his teeth.
Later, in an interview with Vanity Fair, he explained that he chose to remove his teeth instead of getting a grill because he “didn’t feel like having to take them out all the time.”
Shimmering teeth seem to be a shared interest in West’s family.
In June of last year, his 8-year-old son, Saint, exhibited his teeth adorned with metallic Louis Vuitton logos on social media.
His former wife, Kim Kardashian, had also previously showcased a grill adorned with opal and diamonds.
