Sofía Vergara is confronted with a seven-figure lawsuit from a contractor alleging that the actress failed to compensate for the services provided in renovating her Beverly Hills mansion.
Reside Custom Homes initiated legal proceedings against the Modern Family actress, following her engagement of the group in April 2022 for construction work on her $26 million residence.
As per the lawsuit, Vergara supposedly agreed to cover the cost of the work along with the contractor’s fee. However, she purportedly did not settle the $1.7 million bill, encompassing various services such as the installation of clay plaster in three powder rooms, the office, dining room walls, the cabana bathroom, and the guest house living room.
According to the documents, she also requested the team to remove and replace a flight of stairs.
While the majority of the work was finished by December 2022, RCH asserted that Vergara supposedly requested substantial additional work. This extended the completion date to March 2023, coinciding with her move back into the residence, as per TMZ reports.
RCH asserts that it covered the expenses for the additional work, expecting Vergara to reimburse the amount as agreed upon. However, they allege that she never fulfilled this commitment despite her assurances.
“Reside Custom Homes was forced to sue Ms. Vergara for money that she has owed to RCH since March 2023 and that she promised RCH she would pay,” stated RCH Counsel, Stephen E. Foster, Partner at Mitchell Silberberg & Knupp LLP. “For some seven months, despite repeated appeals by RCH for payment, Ms. Vergara never formally complained about the quality of RCH’s work nor disputed any specific charge. Aware that RCH only had until November to file suit, in October Ms. Vergara had her long-time entertainment attorney write to RCH seeking to bully RCH into walking away from the money it and it’s hard-working subcontractors are owed.”
“RCH is not, and will not be, deterred by baseless threats, and emphatically rejects Ms. Vergara’s conjured-up, belated and convenient accusations. Unlike Ms. Vergara and her counsel, RCH will not litigate its claims against Ms. Vergara in letters, emails, or the media. Instead, RCH looks forward to having its dispute adjudicated by an impartial tribunal applying the law to the true facts, and RCH is confident it will prevail on the merits.”
Vergara, who recently ended her over seven-year marriage with husband Joe Manganiello, was spotted in Los Angeles on Saturday, enjoying a night out with friends. She has taken legal steps to expedite the finalization of their divorce proceedings.
Anticipating the future, the star has an exciting venture ahead, prominently featured in the new poster for Netflix’s Griselda, portraying Colombian drug cartel leader Griselda Blanco, also known as the Godmother. The six-episode series is scheduled to debut on January 25, 2024.
Film producer and writer Eric Newman disclosed that the show will be filled with action, highlighting that Vergara infused the gritty role with her own distinctive style.
“It had a lot of the elements and felt like Narcos to us but we also wanted it to be Sofia’s party,” he shared with The Hollywood Reporter. “She’s so good in it and it’s something that she’s been carrying around. To go back to your question about what appeals to me, or what the throughline is, it’s that kind of passion.”
“There’s always someone in the equation — and I’ve been the person and I’ve also facilitated for the person — and here it was Sofia who was like, ‘I want to do this. I don’t know that I can do this but I want to try.’ And I knew she could.”
