Tiffany Haddish is confirmed to be confronting two misdemeanor charges for reportedly dozing off while driving a vehicle.
The 44-year-old comedian was taken into custody in the early hours of November 24, following a response by the Beverly Hills Police Department to a report about a woman who had halted her vehicle in the middle of Beverly Drive with the engine running.
The evening before, Haddish had taken the stage at the Laugh Factory in West Hollywood as part of its complimentary Thanksgiving feast, as reported by TMZ.
On Wednesday, PEOPLE received confirmation from the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office that the Girls Trip star is facing charges of one misdemeanor count of driving under the influence of alcohol and another misdemeanor count of driving with a blood alcohol content of .08%. Her arraignment and plea have been scheduled for December 22.
Following her arrest, Haddish took the stage for a pre-scheduled stand-up show at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach, California, and discussed the situation, as revealed by audio obtained by TMZ from an audience member.
In the recording, Haddish is questioned about the events of “last night” and playfully responds, “You tell me.” She goes on to say, “I had prayed to God to send me a man with a job, career, preferably in a uniform, and I answered my prayers.”
This development follows her arrest in Georgia in January 2022 on charges of suspected DUI and improper stopping on a roadway.
“Subsequent investigation led to Ms. Tiffany Haddish being arrested for Driving Under the Influence,” the police informed PEOPLE at the time. “She was transported to the Fayette County Jail without incident.”
In an interview published on November 27 with Entertainment Tonight, Haddish shared that she is “going to get some help so I can learn balance and boundaries.”
Regarding her arrest, she clarified to the outlet that her Tesla had autonomously parked itself while she was asleep, causing a blockage on the street when officers arrived. The Here Today actress also commended the Beverly Hills police for their handling of the situation and mentioned that she remained in good spirits.
Celebrating her 44th birthday earlier this month, Haddish penned an Instagram tribute post to herself in which she said she is “ready for my next chapter in life.”

The actress is set to delve into her life in her upcoming second book, titled I Curse You With Joy. Scheduled for publication in May 2024 by Diversion Books, the book will comprise a collection of essays and stories.
“I’m so excited to share the rollercoaster of success that I’ve been on with my readers and to show them that just because I’m famous, that doesn’t mean I’m not human. I find joy in the hardest things in life which you’ll all be able to read about in this new book,” shared Haddish in an exclusive statement to PEOPLE.
